When one hears the word segregation, what frequently comes to mind are images of churches, bus depots, schools, and diners. Often overlooked are the public spaces that enrich and nurture our spirits and provide important outlets for recreation. This program will examine matters of equity, justice, and freedom in natural settings and in public recreation facilities during the Jim Crow Era of social, political, and economic segregation. Specifically, the speakers will examine this topic as it relates to the natural environment, public pools, and state parks.
