Join us for an engaging evening with award-winning author, preservationist, and cultural developer Gene Kansas as he discusses his mission, work, and his acclaimed book, Civil Sights: Sweet Auburn, a Journey Through Atlanta's National Treasure. This talk and tour are a deeper dive than a regular book talk. Interviewed by Brennen Collins, Associate Director and Academic Professional at Georgia State University. In this conversational-style interview with Q&A, the audience will learn about Gene’s process for creating a book with such historical significance.

About the Gene Kansas

Gene Kansas is a real estate developer and historic preservationist, known for his work in safeguarding Atlanta's cultural spaces and fostering community engagement. His writing has been featured in various publications, including Atlanta Magazine and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.


About Brennen Collins

Brennen Collins is an Associate Director and Academic Professional at Georgia State University, serving a multifaceted role in the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Online Education (CETLOE) and the Department of English.

Collins's work encompasses a broad range of interests, including digital humanities, the intersection of the Humanities with fields like mapping, digital heritage, data visualization and curation, and immersive learning. He is also interested in creating transdisciplinary and interinstitutional projects that explore the urban landscape to enhance critical thinking and community engagement.
