How can public space bring people together for social interaction?
The Cascade Heights bus canopy is a pilot project for the Department of City Planning’s Placemaking Program. City Planning staff and consultants worked with community members to design and implement a custom shelter that reflects the nature identity of the neighborhood, as well as, the functional needs of the residents. Features include, real time bus signage, landscaped planters, wayfinding graphics, and neighborhood branding.
The Mural Bike Rack Program is a collaboration between the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Department of City Planning. A panel of artist, residents, and City staff selected three community artists to design and paint locally crafted racks. Bike parking encourages people to bike and shows that adjacent businesses value sustainability and alternate modes of transportation
