Broad Street

The Broad Street Pedestrian Plaza is a pilot project to test the feasibility and design of converting one of Downtown Atlanta’s most well-known streets into a signature public space for social interaction. This particular section of Broad Street was chosen because it was previously closed to vehicular traffic to encourage pedestrian and storefront activities, but remained open for vehicular parking which created numerous user conflicts. The design features a quickly assembled and fully adjustable pedestal decking system with both integrated and detached furniture elements. The space itself is organized to create seating for adjacent restaurants and spaces for special events, meet ADA accessibility requirements, and maintain access to existing utilities and stormwater infrastructure.
